This is Pinan Godan from my Ikkyu test. I study O-Sensei, Richard Kim's Shorinji-Ryu karate-do. The Pinan katas were first introduced by Anko Itosu in the Spring of 1904 to students of the Okinawa Prefectural Normal School, to help teach the basics of Shuri-te. Pinan Godan is the fifth in a series of five kata that are thought to be either rudimentary versions of the ancient and more advanced katas; Kushanku and Gojushiho, or derived from a (now lost) Chinese kata called Channan. The word "Pinan" means "Peaceful Mind".
