I would assume they cut it off because she goes to college since they were seniors in high school during the first film.
…actually, it was explained in the beginning of "The Karate Kid Part 2", that Daniel and Ally apparently had a falling out in their relationship, and in fact, Daniel is shown driving up to Mr. Myagi's house, in his vintage yellow car, which was smoking, and appeared to have been in an accident. It was explained angrily by Daniel, that he had lent the car to Ally, and she crashed it….
