Genesis of Karate-jutsu & Shorinjiryu (brief version)
Much of what became known as karate in its 'Jutsu' form was created and transmitted by the Ogasawara Clan, who basically practiced A set of Military Training Regimen to keep them battl- ready and conditioned for many skirmishes within the island & from the opportunistic outsiders. Toude Sakugawa (1733-1815), may be termed the Founder of A Karate Style. He helped codify the indigenous Fighting Arts with Chinese Kempo into A set of teachings that ultimately became Okinawa-Te. These Teachings embodied Kobujutsu and Empty Hand Instruction, and eventually included derivatives of Shaolin Forms (contained secret teachings) practiced within the Temple. Notable Students of Toude Sakugawa were : Matsumura Sensei, Itosu Sensei & Hanishiro Sensei With the marriage of Zen Buddhism & Karate-jutsu, much needed for Warrior Spirit, the Modern Karate-do was born. The above mentioned students of Sakugawa Sensei produced their own pupils, who became famous Karate Masters, claiming their own Sokeship. Amongst these Masters are such notable Karatekas as : Funakoshi Sensei (*Shotokan), Chibana Sensei (*ShorinRyu), Mabuni (*Shito ryu), Motobu Sensei (*Motobu-ryu), Miyagi Sensei (*Goju ryu). The Fighting Arts of Okinawa are recognized by A.N.J.K.K.U. which is governed by J.K.F.
