Attitude in Martial Arts
Over the years I have studied a number of different Martial Arts styles and techniques, and in a number of different schools. As a Teen I studied under Lou Angel in Kempo Karate. Then later I studied under Roger Green and Jim Mason @Kandukwan - Tracy's Martial Arts School. A school locally known as Kang's TKD representing Universal Taekwondo, I also studied there. Later on however, I discovered a remarkable gentleman known as General Choi Hong Hi of Korea and he was presented as the founder of ITF Taekwondo. The school I attended was known as ITF-USTF Taekwondo. Although all of my schooling was rigerous and required much study and hard work...I found that ITF was A Strict and Severe Military Training approach to Yung Shin Taekwondo. I had the astute honor of meeting and working with the highest ranking officials in the world in ITF-USTF. I also was allowed to observe black belt tests ranging from 4th Dan to 6th Dan. Or A4 and A6. Those were extremely rigerous and difficult tests indeed....! What I would like to offer in this Attitude aspect of becoming involved in the real world of Martial Arts, for one, is this: Learning how to discipline one's self to become the very best you can be is vital and important... Becoming greatly skilled in how to execute specific martial arts skills and techniques is also very important. But one's Attitude towards others is extremely important as well....! Becoming a Bully after all that hard work and training is very undesirable and doesn't relect well on your instructors. Helping other students better their skills and forms and techinques and sharing all you know and have learned is a good thing. Remaining focused and allowing oneself to be human at all times is a good thing. Learning how to become a Team Member .....not all self absorbed and just "look at me"....is a vital aspect of Martial Arts too. Be on good terms with yourself and treat your fellow classmates as tho you would want them to cover your back in a crisis as you would welcome doing the same for them. Strive to be The Best You Can Be....!
